Mary Jane 04:21
Another song about Mary Jane Another song about Mary Jane So many songs about Mary Jane But none of those songs has been about you I’ve loved you since I was a little girl in patent leather Buster Browns High above you I watched reflections in you Everything is upside-down In high school your Chinese cotton cloth was wedded to my thrift-store clothes Plain or embroidered with blooming roses stitched in red and pink upon your toes Another song about Mary Jane... Dear Dr. Marten he brought you back to me with big and sturdy soles that weigh With one stately buckle each foot is fastened in for the combat of the average day You are all grown up now with taller heels and colors matching every mood Always a girl inside, I won’t surrender the practicality of youth Another song about Mary Jane... But this is the only one about you

I’ve got a creepy feeling about you
And so I’m watching your every move
I’ve got a creepy feeling about you
And so I’m watching you across the room As soon as you walk in
your eyes start scanning prey
with rapid movements left and right
, and so I step away Slightly patronizing
you flatter to excess
 Terms of endearment
, a plaster smile and a soft caress I’ve got a creepy feeling about you... Something rumbles
beneath the surface of your lake
 Swimming slowly back and forth
to choose which bite to take The seconds tick away
just marking time until
Your hidden motive rears its head
, revealing your true will I’ve got a creepy feeling about you... You kinda look familiar
 Are you from my past?
I’ve got a creepy feeling
from when I saw you last Sugar spins confections
in the windows of your eyes
Your sweet talk creates a candy shell
, and beneath the toxin lies

Why do I have to comb my hair?
Why do you tell me what to wear?
Why do I have to be so nice?
Why can’t I get a new device? Because I said so! Why do I have to read all the time?
Why do I have to make a rhyme?
Why do I have to take a shower?
Why can’t I be the one in power!!! Because I said so! Why can’t I ever get new markers?
Why can’t this song be even darker?
Why do I have to be so patient?
Why can’t I be my own free agent? Because I said so! Ooooh, mama used to say
You’re gonna say it too one day
Yooou don’t wanna go to bed
You’re gonna do it because I said! Why do I have to eat my dinner?
Why can’t I just be a sinner?
Why can’t I just go to school?
Why do you have to have so many rules? Because I said so!

Three and twenty unmatched pairs
Like lovers, mother and father
 Caterpillars lying side by side
Cover for lapses of each other
 Myriad little nuts and bolts
To keep the body in functioning order
 Mass producing molecules
An organism’s bricks and mortar Unlucky number in the set
Malfunction in a certain gene
Location BRCA2 on chromosome 13 On chromosome 13 A problem has been located
 Amino acid 1257
Proteins emerging truncated The hand of fortune rolls the dice
With every move of the one good gene
Not a slip can I afford on chromosome 13 Is this a blessing or a curse?
Thanks be to God and call the nurse
 Scarlet letter on my breast
Marks me as different from all the rest
’Cause I’m a mutant Now the job is left to one
 The partner in the pair
 No longer allowed to fail
Perfect proteins for cell repair Unlucky number in the set
 Malfunction in a certain gene
 ocation BRCA2 on chromosome 13

Floating in her module with her hair fanning out Like the snakes of the monster that the myths tell about The notes of her flute made a sweet serenade Song of love to the planet that the Big Bang made Goddess in orbit The astronaut flew Charting the sky with her uniformed crew Goddess in orbit The astronaut’s flight Mapping the stars and their light Watching the behavior of matter in space Liquid and gas in a plexiglass case The absence of weight made her osteoprone so she worked out her muscles, ran tests on her bones Goddess in orbit... A mom far away from her bear cub below He tracks her flight and she talks to him on video With a little stuffed tiger and a bedtime tune She says “I love you, and I’ll be home soon.”

In the inn I was in.... There was only one bed and six of us There was only one bathroom and all six of us had to go at the same time! There weren’t any windows and just a curtain for the door One day we’ll stay at a place with breakfast and cable TV Where they treat you nice and they know what an inn is supposed to be That place with the sheet on the chairs was a fort I could not defend O.K. for a living room game but I’m glad it was just pretend The custodian only came to clean the room one time while I was there!

Wonder Girl 04:38
The strength of a mountain Nothing can knock her down! The force of a fountain Bursting from the ground! Wonder Girl always saves the day Wonder Girl drives the clouds away Wonder Girl foiled the villains again With Wonder Girl, life begins again The energy of lightning The air electrifies! Nothing is frightening Fear is pulverized! Love like a wild wind Picking you up like a kite! True to the very end Shining brilliant light!

Helen 04:52
A fever named for a color I would never see Turned off my eyes and ears completely A growing girl felt vibrations in the floor Of footsteps or the closing of a door No words to send you a telegram for mute I am No thread for communication line to your head from mine Two sets of symbols form a code a newfound road Ten fingers carry signals to the world from a thinking girl Mama Keller gives a kiss upon the cheek A guiding hand to the table, time to eat A mirror, just an object in a frame A freedom from that vanity and shame The parade of green grass and blue sky Impossible audience am I

Orion Nebula 02:14
Orion Nebula, Orion Nebula A baby star is born Not bright until it’s grown Looking up at the sky Furry fuzz above our eyes Orion Nebula, Orion Nebula Red and orange and big Fuzzy like a wig Orion Nebula, Orion Nebula A baby star is born Even brighter when she’s grown!

Little Miss Muffet sat on a tuffet eating her curds and whey Down came a spider that sat down beside her and frightened Miss Muffet away They met at a café serving from the buffet getting cottage cheese Then they made friends Then they played pretend Then they flew a kite in the breeze Eight-legged bug gave Miss Muffet a hug hen she filled his dish “How ’bout a slider?” she said to the spider And then she heard a “squish”! She cried and cried all day Didn’t want to play She cried and cried all around She cried ’till the sun went down Little Miss Muffet sat on her tuffet eating her curds just plain Yet another spider sat beside her and frightened Miss Muffet again Then they flew a kite again Then she accidentally killed it again!

Persephone 07:26
Mother, who’s that man in the great chariot from the ground? Mother, I am taken into darkness stolen without a sound No need to watch over for after all I am grown And never before was it perilous to go picking flowers alone Four seeds to make a bride Reluctant queen, reluctant queen Four seasons now divide Her absence brown, her presence green Baby, where have you gone? Your song has gone silent as I call Lady, lovely daughter I will search for you ’till the earth dries to straw Die fragrant flowers! Wheat stalks turn to dust! A chill shall fall upon all the land as punishment for his lust Four seeds to make a bride... Beauty, soon you’ll trust me Look past the outside, see my heart is pure My hungry beautiful darling A pomegranite I bring A sweet seed for each month of cold And the earth shall still have her spring
